Statement
‘The purpose of my work is to be
highly patterned and decorative.
Showing the narrative of women
in detail orientated and structured
interior scenes.’
Playing with the classic theme of
women within interior scenes my
work offers more than meets the
eye. Layers of pattern hide the secrets of the painting’s inhabitants, beneath the beauty lies complex narratives which can be decoded through hidden details within the piece.
I have always used my paintings as a lens to discuss personal identity and as my style develops more narratives, characters and historical concepts join the fold. The placement of paintings, pattern and objects fix identities to the different woman within the frozen scene. The viewer glimpses in, as if spying upon the unfolding events.
Filled with an eerie sense of falseness you must look beyond this to find the glimpses of reality. I ask the viewer to question what is real and what story you believe is being told.
